Digital Media Producer
Location: Downtown Chicago, Illinois
Hours: Full-Time; Monday - Friday
Schedule: Hybrid; This role will require flexibility to be on or off-site for production dates, live-streamed events, etc.
Duration: Temporary to Permanent
Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 salary and comprehensive benefits, upon conversion
Our client, a large non-profit healthcare association, seeks a Digital Media Producer to add to their team! This role is responsible for creating visually compelling and educational videos, assisting with audio recording and editing of educational podcasts, and helping with the video production of live stream events. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in producing nonfiction, editorial, or educational content.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create educational multimedia content for the organization (80%):
- Record and edit audio podcasts using Adobe Audition or similar DAW and expertly handle related technical issues
- Craft stories into captivating digital compositions, combining interview clips, sound effects, and music, as well as occasional text and visuals, as needed
- Working in collaboration with a medical editor, conduct research on medical and scientific topics for digital content production
- Edit and/or write scripts and questions and structure audio and video interviews into compelling narratives
- Support internal clients with live stream video productions using OBS and ZoomISO
- Produce and edit a variety of videos, including explainers, Q&As, short documentaries, microlearning videos, and clinical education videos
- Assist with on-location and in-studio video production (camera, lighting, audio, directing subjects, etc.)
- Create custom visuals for videos by shooting b-roll, stop motion, creating motion graphics, or animating
Complete production and post-production processes for publication (20%)
- Publish and distribute podcasts and other digital products via established publishing and distribution channels
- Create various thumbnails and promotional assets as needed
- Use independent judgement to provide technical and creative solutions to issues
- Ability to perform remote production, QA checks, and troubleshooting for digital media releases remotely outside of regular business hours required on occasion
- Collaborate with junior staff, social media, and marketing team members, to provide constructive feedback on audio and other multimedia content
- May include other responsibilities as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in audio engineering, filmmaking, digital media production, journalism, or similar field required.
- Master’s degree in journalism, communication, or video production with an emphasis on science, health, or environmental reporting preferred.
- Digital portfolio with 5-10 professional-quality multimedia pieces required for consideration.
- 3+ years’ experience in audio engineering recording and editing high-quality audio content for a major publisher, radio station, news outlet, or similar.
- 3+ years video production experience.
- Strong background in nonfiction, editorial, or educational video storytelling required. A background as a video journalist, visual journalist, documentary filmmaker, or science communicator preferred.
- 3+ years conducting journalistic research, writing, and/or editing scripts for audio or video required.
- Aptitude and strong motivation to learn new technical skills and tools and apply them quickly to projects on an ongoing basis.
- Ability to problem-solve creatively and evaluate, develop, and implement ideas, as well as the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Careful attention to editorial detail and ability to work independently under deadline pressure, with minimal supervision required.
- Experience using Adobe Audition or similar professional Digital Audio Workstation software required.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, etc.) required.
- Experience with live video production tools (OBS, Stream Labs, ZoomISO, NDI, DANTE, etc.) required.
- Familiarity with Descript software, HTML/XML, and digital media publishing platforms (e.g., Libsyn, Simplecast, YouTube, and Brightcove) a plus.
